RACE RULES
No Pre Running and No
PLAY RIDING you will be ticketed by the local police and or the BLM
Please help us maintain a clean environment; trash bags will be available at registration to aid in this effort. This event takes months of planning, hard work, and dedication from promoters, city officials and volunteers to make it a success. Please as a racer or a spectator respect the rules; this historical event is designed to bring families, friends and athletes together to enjoy a sport unlike any other.
No play riding of Pit Bikes, UTV’s, Motorcycles and or Golf carts etc. You are responsible for your own safety as well as others around you.
You will be subject to DISQUALIFICATION if you cut the course. We will have checkpoints throughout the course with spotters and their word goes. Also, if you see an accident or rider down please report it to the nearest checkpoint immediately.
The Desert Tortoise. The Searchlight Grand Prix has been rescheduled to accommodate the Desert Tortoise. “Sweep riders will continually ride the course just in case a tortoise is encountered. If you see a desert tortoise report its location immediately to the next available course worker. We will have a qualified tortoise person move it to a safe location.
You will NOT be SCORED if you do not have the correct numbers on all three sides of your vehicle. Numbers must be clearly visible for the scoring team.
Experts: White back grounds w/ Black numbers or Red with White numbers
Ama: Yellow back ground with Black numbers
Novice/ Beginner: Black back ground with White numbers
COURSE MARKERS:
The course is marked with bright Pink Ribbon and with Arrows pointing Left, Right, and Straight ahead, Down, Bright Orange Pie Plates will be placed around the course for any potential hazards. Even if you do not see an arrow, we advise you to be alert on the first lap of your race. Arrows can be destroyed throughout the day and it is up to you to race with caution. Stakes used to staple arrows to will be painted orange facing the direction of course travel. Yellow and red caution tape or other means may be used to block or barricade an area.
If you have trouble during your race, do not stay on the course. We need you to immediately move your race vehicle off of the track, before dealing with your difficulty. If at any time you need to stop, you must move off the track as quickly as possible. This is extremely important and is to assure both your safety and the safety of others. There will be "sweep riders" with radios riding the course continually and they will assist you as soon as possible. If necessary, there will be sweep vehicles to pick up you and your race vehicle after each race. Do not leave your race vehicle unattended. SGPRA is not responsible for your race vehicle. Searchlight Grand Prix does not provide you any medical insurance. You are solely responsible for all medical insurance/expenses. You have the right to refuse treatment from the Searchlight Volunteer Fire Dept. SGPRA and the SVFD assume no responsibility.
Anyone found consuming an excessive
amount of alcohol will be asked to leave the event. Any rider found consuming ANY alcohol or any
drug will not be allowed to compete. No alcohol in the start
finish area.
PIT AREA
NO PIT RIDING AT ANY
TIME.
Pit area must be kept clean.
All trash must be removed from the area.
All race vehicles: may be rode to and from the Start/Finish area in 1st gear only. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the event. Pit only in the “Designated Pit Area “. This area will located at the start/ finish. Do not leave the course to go to your camp site to work on your vehicle!!!
Rider or riders entering the course at any point other than the starting area before or during a race is subject to disqualification from the day’s events.
Anyone participating on the course without first being entered for the meet will be subject to disqualification and/or removed from the property
SGPRA race officials shall exclude immediately any rider who, in his or her opinion, is guilty of any foul, unfair or dangerous riding.
During a race event, a machine must not acquire any velocity other than from its own mode of power, the muscular efforts of its rider, and natural causes, such as gravity. All Quads (except mini quads) must have a working lanyard style kill switch capable “killing” or rendering the machine inoperable incase the rider loses control .
No transfer of entries is to be made, unless SGPRA is notified and the proper documentation has been made. If a pre-entered rider cannot attend an event he must forfeit all entries monies.
In order to be properly entered, a participant must complete an official entry form either by going to Searchlight Grand Prix.com or on the day of the event. When you arrive at the event, you MUST bring and sign the liability waiver. A parent or legal guardian must accompany all Minors at registration. All minors entry’s and waivers bust be notarized.
The promoters or race officials of the Searchlight Grand Prix have the right to refuse service to anyone.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:
All clothing may be examined and approved with each rider’s machine at technical inspection. Protective clothing as listed below must be worn at all times while practicing or during any race. Failure to observe these rules will lead to exclusion from the event. Safety is the number one concern in the inspection of racing clothing.
All riders must wear full coverage clothing of close fitting design made of material suited as to provide adequate protection to the rider.
Riders must wear helmets at all times during the course of the events. Helmets must meet current D.O.T. & Snell approval and be in fresh condition.
All riders must wear leather boots extending far enough up the leg so as no gap occurs between boots and the bottom of the pant leg when in any riding position. Boots must also offer adequate ankle support and shin protection.
Eye protection must be worn at all times and must be shatter/splinter proof material. If vision becomes blocked or in any way impaired it is the rider’s responsibility to correct the problem before starting or continuing any event. Gloves and shoulder pads are recommended for additional protection.
All machine and equipment examinations will be conducted by technical inspectors supplied by the event site. If, in the technical inspector’s opinion, a machine or rider’s protective clothing is deemed to be unsafe, he will not be allowed to compete although he may meet all written requirements.
UTV’s:
Utv’s must have enclosed cockpits with side incloser capable of withstanding side impacts. Window safety nets or arm restraints. Must have racing seats with a min. 4 point safety harness. 5 point recommended. Driver must be able to remove him or herself from the vehicle in case of roll over.
Batteries must be securely tied down. No wet acid batteries are allowed in the driver cockpit area. Only dry cell. Fuel tanks or fuel cells must be securely fastened and the filler cap secured. A small fire extinguisher shall be mounted on the vehicle in an accessible location.
QUADS:

FLAGS:
Green: Start or proceed
Red: Medical emergency ahead
Black: Stop see race official
Orange/Yellow: Proceed with caution
White: Last Lap
Checkered: Race is over
